The Unpredictable One
By Pastor Stella Ilegogie
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
[Joh 3:8] KJV
The Lord teaches us about the Holy Spirit by comparing His attributes and characteristics to the natural things we see and contact daily. We can learn much about the Holy Spirit by studying these emblems.
In [[Joh 3:8]] KJV The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. In John 3:8 The Holy Spirit is likened to the wind which we cannot tell when it comes and where it goes.
There’s an element of unpredictability about the Holy Spirit. So should it be with everyone born of the Spirit. We ought not to be too cut and dried in our ways. In Acts 10: 44 while Peter yet spake, the Holy Ghost fell… Peter’s sermon was still on in Cornelius’ house when the Unpredictable One fell upon the audience filling them with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
[[Act 10:44]] KJV While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
If we are not too set in our ways, the Holy Spirit will have room to move in unpredictable ways and bless lives and fill our hearts with joy.
A certain time, Dad Kenneth Hagin prepared a special sermon for Mother’s Day. During the service God told him when he gets up to preach, he should have a Healing Service, he initially didn’t buy into that prompting of the Holy Spirit. Eventually, as he yielded to the Holy Spirit, he had an amazing healing Service. Men were in tears, souls were saved and outstanding healings took place in that service. All these came to pass because he gave way to that element of unpredictability that showed up to “interrupt” his set pattern.
Let’s not be too set in our ways. The Holy Spirit is the Unpredictable One. He comes unpredictably when he wants. That may not be the order of the day but when he comes, we should learn to give him way and it definitely will do us good and bring us profit.
As we become more flexible to allow the wind blow where it listeth, though we cannot tell whence it cometh and whither it goeth, we, sure enough, can tell the effects of Healing and Health, joy and peace, life more abundantly it leaves on its trail as it blows across our lives.
Come, thou Unpredictable One when you will, how you will and do what you will in and through us filling our hearts with joy as you blow all across our lives.
