The Holy Spirit in your Personal Life

By Dapo Ogunniyi

I was recently at a meeting where a number of ministers from different ministries and denominations were guest ministers. As a personal preference, I always listen more than I talk in such places and it has proven to be advantageous over the years.

Somehow, the discussion turned to the Holy Spirit and a number of those there talked about how they wished they were around when Jesus was walking on the earth physically and how much they could have accomplished.

I had the following conversation in my heart with the Holy Spirit and I found it most amazing.

“However, I am telling you the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you (into close fellowship with you); but if I go away, I will send Him to you (to be in close fellowship with you)

John 16:7 AMPC

Wow!! Did you notice Jesus said it is to our advantage for Him to go to the Father so He can send the Holy Ghost to us? I submit that this is the right time to be alive in Him. We can do so much more with the Holy Ghost in our lives.

He is our Counselor – you have your personal adviser, mentor, confidant, consultant and guide living in you. Consequently, wisdom is available for you on the inside.

He is our Helper – teammate, coworker, aide, collaborator, partner, supporter. Simply put, I cannot burn out, be alone on my journey through life or be without someone to confide in.

He is our Advocate – champion, promoter, proponent, supporter, backer, patron. My goodness, can you still say you don’t have someone pushing your case, ensuring your success or promoting your course or case?He is our Intercessor – mediator, go-between, negotiator, one who intervenes on one’s behalf. Did you notice the evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit is speaking with new tongues (Acts 2:4)? When you pray in this heavenly language, Apostle Paul says you utter secret truths

and hidden things not obvious to human understanding. ( 1 Corinthians 14:2). What an exciting time and age to be alive!

He is our Strengthener – reinforcement, additional strength, provides the ability to get the task done. Friends, that means I am not without the tools to live a victorious life, to get the task done for my ministry, to be the best spouse or parent I can be. He’s in you, infusing inner strength within you. I don’t know about you, I’m just about ready to just start running right now for the victory is yours.

He is our Standby – a person who provides readiness for immediate duty or deployment. That means I need to stop focusing on the qualifications I don’t have, the degrees I don’t have, the money I don’t have, the eloquence I don’t have. Focus in on the Greater one in you that is ready at all times. He has qualified you to accomplish all in your life that the Father will have you do.

Read what the scriptures say about the Holy Spirit in you and what He can accomplish through you. The Father and Jesus have not left us alone, nor have they left us without aide or support or helpless in life (Heb13:5b).

Thank God we have the Holy Spirit!!!!
