Preacher: Rev. Toks Adejuwon
Text: John 7: 37-39, Acts 2: 1-4
The Holy Ghost has already been given. The bible talks about rivers of water flowing out of our belly. Rivers flow and like a river, we can also learn to flow with the Holy Ghost.
1 Cor. 12: 1-11
Manifestations of the Holy Ghost are as the Spirit leads. You cant pull a lever or press a button to make Him move. However, there are certain things we could do to make it easier to flow with the Holy Ghost.
There is the nine-fold fruit of the spirit (one fruit with nine parts) and the nine manifestations of the Spirit. The fruit of the spirit is a function of the new birth and is for character. The gifts of the Spirit are manifestations of the Holy Spirit and they are an endowment with power for service. Are there things we need to do as individuals, local Churches and the Body of Christ in general to have increased manifestations of these gifts of the Spirit?
1 Cor. 2: 1-5.
Gifts of the spirit can be demonstrated. There are demonstrations of the Spirit of God, God does some of these things just as a sign.
Positioning yourself to yield to the Holy Ghost
1. Have knowledge of the things of the Spirit 1 Cor. 12: 1.
We need to study more and teach more about the things of the Spirit. Just like electricity is God’s power in the natural, the anointing is God’s power in the supernatural. And just like electricity, there are laws that govern manifesting the gifts of the Spirit. The more we know about the things of the Spirit, the easier it becomes to yield to them.
Luke 10: 21 – Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit
1 Peter 1: 7-8 – rejoice with Joy unspeakable
Gal. 5: 22 – Joy is a fruit of the spirit and it is not a function of the surrounding situation.
When the anointing is present, you can start in the flesh (start out naturally) and wind up in the spirit. It’s demons that force people, the Holy Ghost will never force you. You have to yield to Him. All through the word of God, we see the Bible encourage us to lift up our hands to God. The world claps but the church lifts up holy hands.
Romans 8: 1-10. If you are born again, you are in the spirit. Spiritual things are not goofy; we can respond to the things of the Spirit. The more you speak in other tongues, the more susceptible you are to the Holy Spirit. The local church is a safe place to learn how to yield to the Spirit.
2. Pray for the move of God from a right heart Zech. 10: 1, Acts 10: 44-46
Pray for the move of God and the manifestations of the Spirit. Don’t be selfish about that prayer (to be the only one used in that move of the Spirit) but that lives will be blessed. Moves of God are birthed. Intercession always precedes a revival.
3. Worship in the Spirit Acts 13: 2. 1Cor. 6: 19-20, 2 Cor 6: 16.
If we are going to see the move of God, we must learn to. worship God in the Spirit. We are God’s temple. God answers prayers but He inhabits praises. Worship is not about what God will do for us but about our heart of praise and thanksgiving to God. Acts 16: 25-26, John 4: 22- 24, Jesus introduced a change in the order of worship.
We are true worshippers – we worship God in the Spirit. We are to worship God in Psalms, hymns and Spiritual Songs. Every believer can work in the gift of prophecy. When the bible talks about spiritual songs, it is talking about songs that come in the spur of the moment as inspired by the Holy Ghost.
1 Cor. 14: 26, Eph. 5: 18-21. One way to despise the Spirit is to despise inspired utterances.
1 Tim. 2: 8, Eph. 5: 21. Praise is the highest form of prayer. In the New Testament, what we are told to do with our hands is to lift them up. We ought to reverence God in the place of worship. The things of God are grave. What you despise, you will never attract. If you despise the move of the Spirit, you will not attract it.
Heb. 13: 15, Rom. 12: 1-2, 2 Tim. 2: 18 – 21. What we do with our bodies is also a part of our worship. What we feed our minds on is a part of our worship. Revival fire burns brighter through purer vessels.
4. Hunger 1 Cor. 12: 31
The only time covetousness is allowed is with spiritual gifts. This was written to a church and not an individual. The Spirit of God will divide to each person in that congregation as they covet the gifts and as He pleases.
1 Tim. 6: 10. Anytime people get money minded, they lose the anointing. We are not allowed to covet money.
5. Walk in Love 1 Cor. 12: 31 -13: 1-8, Eph. 4: 23, 1 Cor. 14: 1
You can have the move of the Spirit without love but it will be just noise. Every time Jesus was moved with compassion, there were healings and miracles. If a believer does not judge Himself, God will judge Him. Love works no ill against his neighbor. Close to walking in love is forgiveness.
Also close to love is compassion. We need to be as compassionate as the Father is if we must see the Spirit of God move. If we don’t work in love, we are going to open ourselves to sickness.
6. Association, Environment, and Influence. 2 Kings 2
A mantle is not destined to fall on anybody. Often times God places the desires of some anointings in the hearts of people, and as they follow closely, they get their anointing.
Know who God called you to follow. Somethings rub off by associations, environment, and influence.
1 Cor. 11: 1 Be faithful to follow and serve.
Prov. 13: 20, 22: 27
7. Preach the gospel
Manifestations of the Spirit is about the harvest.
Heb. 2: 3-4. If you want to see signs, preach the gospel.
