As the year draws to a close, I hear many people talking of the goals they didn’t achieve this year. I see people trying to hurry up, running helter -skelter , putting themselves under so much pressure to meet up with the goals they set for themselves, I see them trying to meet up with some imaginary people and trying to measure up with the Jones. They are consumed with what they haven’t achieved, consumed with what they don’t have and with what they are yet to get.
But I choose to have a different mindset. I choose to look back at the year and see the marvelous things that God has done for me. So I set out to count my blessings and to thank the Lord for the things he has done and the things he is doing.
For one, I am alive and well! I have the use of all my faculties.
So I started thinking of the goodness of God and where he has brought me from. I remembered his mercies towards me. I remembered his long- suffering towards me. I remembered how he forgives me my iniquities, heals my body and daily loads me with benefits! He puts food on my table, clothes on my back and a roof over my head. I have a sound mind and a well body. I remembered his protection over me and mine. He keeps his word to me. Not once have I trusted him and he failed to come through for me. Not once!
He made me a joyful mother of children many times over. He gives me good and refreshing sleep. He enables me to carry out my daily activities. He has been a good father to me!
Therefore, as we end this year, let’s be mindful of the wonderful privileges we get to enjoy as God’s children. In – spite of all the economic woes in the land, I have suffered no lack. In fact, my life is overflowing with blessings and goodness. Let’s remember his loving kindness, let’s remember the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit who goes through life with us, offering free help and counsel to us. Instead of focusing on the goals yet unrealized and putting ourselves under pressure, let’s celebrate the many good things that have happened and are still happening! To me and my household, God has been more than good! He has been a wonderful, kind and loving Father to us. For that , I am grateful and thankful! I celebrate the goodness of God in my life!
